Don’t let the competition get you down! We’ve broken down some of the wildest tips out there for entrepreneurial success to help you realize your big business dreams from your small business office.
1. Reinvent the wheel:
Top companies offer customers solutions to problems they didn’t even know they had. The Apple iPod digital music player continues to be a leader because it was created as advanced technology entirely focused on the music from purchase to play, whereas other players focused soley on technology. Rather than just adding to the menu, McDonald’s reinvented their brand to accommodate a growing taste for sophisticated beverages without alienating their youngest customers or raising prices. Both companies consider their customers at least as much as they do budget and bottom line.
These are massive corporations, but they all started somewhere and it wasn’t with global market domination. McDonald’s and Apple solve problems by analyzing the daily life of their customers and continuously search for ways to make that daily life easier and a little more fun. Make up customer profiles for the different types of customers you have and recreate their path to you, and with your services. How did they find you? What made them want to know more about you? How do they use your services? Find the holes in the process and rather than fill them, devise better way to help your customers succeed.
2. Treat your company like one of your customers:
Shoot for the moon, we’ll never tell you not to, but do it realistically. Take small steps and get to the moon prepared to take on the increased work load, and do it with logistics smooth like grape jelly. Make the time to take care of the little things as they happen so that hiccups don’t fall through the cracks.
Keep your eye on new innovations – both in your industry and out of it – and plot ways to integrate them into your business. If you sell custom cookie cutters, get in on the pop culture fan convention juggernaut! Take on a summer student as your Artist in Residence to come up with new designs. And document it all on social media. With live, unpolished videos. And cookie decorating demonstrations. You look out for your customers, make sure you’re looking out for you, too. Your customers don’t live in a box, don’t limit your business to one.
