For 5 gruelling southern Ontario winters Clyde the snow blower has cleared his family’s driveway faithfully. He didn’t mention last winter that he’d started to feel a little run down. Not wanting to be a bother, he kept his augers down and did the job.
After a great summer relaxing by the snow shovels, Clyde was looking forward to getting back to work. But when his family took him out for that inaugural run of the season, Clyde didn’t start. He stood there stoic, but embarrassed and angry. Wasn’t he a loyal snow blower? What did he do to deserve such humiliation?
Clyde’s family turned to Cambridge Small Motors for help. Josh Kinsie, owner of Cambridge Small Motors, comes to Clyde’s home and bundles him up into the warm van. He brings Clyde to the shop and begins a triage assessment. Clyde tries his best not to look sad, but he can’t help but worry that this is the end to a promising snow blowing career.
Josh inspects Clyde’s engine, wheels, fan, and augers carefully. After several minutes Josh nods his head and disappears into his office. He returns a few minutes later and begins to take Clyde apart.
First Josh tunes up Clyde’s engine. He changes the oil, replaces the sparkplug, and removes and cleans the carburetor with the ultrasonic cleaning machine. When the engine is reassembled, Josh checks that the wheels drive properly, the fan runs efficiently, and then lubes the gears to move smoothly. He starts Clyde up and takes him on a test drive. It’s alive! Then a delighted Clyde hits the showers as Josh gets the van ready to take him home.
Clyde’s family greets Josh and Clyde in the driveway. Josh unloads Clyde from the van and explains to the family that if they empty Clyde’s fuel tank at the end of the season, and make sure to lube up his gears and moving parts regularly, Clyde will keep blowing snow like a pro for many years to come. Clyde feels like a new machine!
