YWCA Cambridge goes above and beyond the call to support girls and women in the community.
YWCA Cambridge, Ontario, enriches the lives of girls and women in the area. For over 65 years the organisation has been a leader in healthy community growth by demonstrating and advocating female equality, diversity, dignity, tolerance, and empowering women to succeed in their goals.
YWCA Cambridge is the only organization in the area whose mandate is to offer programs for women and girls. They provide a haven for girls and women who are looking to expand their knowledge and skill sets. Passionate staff and volunteers roll out a wide variety of free social programming, including:
• Small Steps To Success 12-week life skills & pre-employment program
• Roots of Empathy Enables school classes to follow the emotional, mental and physical growth of an infant in its first year
• TECHGYRLS Program Girl-led STEM-based program (the only one in Canada!)
• STEM Mentoring Program
• Safe Sisters Empowers girls to make healthy choices in every aspect of their lives
Additional programming includes child care, summer camps, YWCA Cambridge Girls Council, community awareness and education activities, (such as Women of Distinction Awards and Celebrating Women Series), and YWCA Week Without Violence.
Website Redesign
When YWCA Cambridge was ready to overhaul their website, they wanted something that reflected their branding and personality, for visitors to easily understand the organisation’s mandate and programming, and to quickly find information. Jelly Triangle created a vibrant, easily navigated website that features online program registration, a fundraising platform, and staff-specific contact capabilities. Mission: Accomplished.
Get Involved
Women’s International Gift and Gallery (WIGG), “the little store with BIG heart”, is a social enterprise that purchases stock from women artisans and entrepreneurs locally, nationally and internationally. Proceeds fund YWCA Cambridge programs. Stock includes toys, clothing, handbags, kitchen gadgets, jewellery, and much more (including some of the coolest socks I’ve ever seen). Seasonal fare is also available online.
September 19th is the Race to Erase at which teams of 4 race around the city to complete tasks of skills and smarts in the fastest time. Find details and register here. http://cambridge2015.racetoerase.com/about-the-race
Saturday June 4, 2016 watch for the popular Walk a Mile In Her Shoes fundraising event during which men walk a few blocks wearing women’s shoes to show their support for equality between genders, and the Women of Distinction celebration honouring women who are leaders, pioneers, risk-takers, creatives and supporters who enrich and improve the quality of life in the community.
For an intimate hands-on role, YWCA Cambridge is looking for volunteers to work in WIGG, run programs, help with fundraising and to sit on their board of directors.
